Daily Ellen – App Privacy Policy
Last updated: 2026-04-03
Daily Ellen ("we", "our", or "us") operates the Daily Ellen mobile application (the "App"). This Privacy Policy explains what information we collect, how we use it, and the choices you have. By using the App, you agree to the practices described here.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
- Favorites & preferences
Verses and quotes you save as favorites are stored locally on your device using encrypted on-device storage. They are not uploaded to our servers. - In-App Purchase (Patron)
If you choose to become a Patron, the purchase is processed entirely by Apple through the App Store. We receive only a non-personal confirmation of the transaction (e.g., purchase status). We do not collect or store your payment card details.
1.2 Information Collected Automatically
- Anonymous device identifier (UUID)
On first launch, the App generates a random, anonymous UUID and stores it in the device's secure storage. This identifier does not contain your name, email address, or any other information that directly identifies you. It is used solely to associate your content feed and Patron status across sessions. - Device information
We collect basic device metadata (OS version, device model) via the device_info_plus library to help us diagnose technical issues and maintain app compatibility. - Approximate location (optional)
With your explicit permission, the App accesses your device's location solely to calculate local sunset time for scheduling purposes (e.g., evening notification timing). Location data is processed on-device and is not transmitted to our servers. - Push notification token (Firebase)
If you enable push notifications, Apple and Firebase generate a device token that allows us to deliver your daily verse and quote reminders. This token is associated only with your anonymous UUID and does not identify you personally. - Timezone information
The App reads your device's IANA timezone name to schedule push notifications at the correct local time. This is transmitted to our notification service and stored alongside your anonymous UUID. - Usage analytics (anonymous)
We collect anonymised event data (e.g., which screens are visited, share actions triggered) to understand how the App is used and to improve the user experience. These events are tied only to your anonymous UUID.
2. What We Do Not Collect
- Your name, email address, phone number, or any account credentials (the App does not require account registration).
- Precise GPS coordinates or continuous location tracking.
- Your contacts, photos, camera, or microphone (the App does not request these permissions).
- Browsing history or data from other apps on your device.
- Any information for the purpose of building advertising profiles or serving targeted advertisements.
3. How We Use Your Information
- To deliver your personalised daily Bible verse and Ellen G. White quote feed.
- To send push notification reminders at your chosen time (daily verse, quote of the day).
- To calculate and apply the correct notification schedule based on your timezone and, if permitted, local sunset time.
- To verify Patron status and unlock premium features within the App.
- To understand aggregate usage patterns and improve the App's reliability, content quality, and user experience.
4. Local Data Storage
- Secure storage – Your anonymous UUID is stored in iOS Keychain via
flutter_secure_storage, which is protected by the device's hardware encryption. - On-device database (Hive) – Favorites, cached content cards, and offline data are stored in an on-device database. This data does not leave your device unless you explicitly use a system share action.
- Preferences – App settings such as notification times, onboarding state, and UI preferences are stored locally using
shared_preferences.
5. Third-Party Services
The App uses the following third-party services, each governed by its own privacy policy:
- Firebase (Google) – Used for push notification delivery (Firebase Cloud Messaging). Google may process device tokens in accordance with Google's Privacy Policy.
- Apple App Store (In-App Purchase) – All purchases are processed by Apple. See Apple's Privacy Policy.
- Daily Ellen Backend API – Our own servers serve the content feed (Bible verses and EGW quotes), store your anonymous UUID and notification preferences, and handle Patron status verification. No personally identifiable information is stored on our servers.
6. Data Sharing
We do not sell, rent, or trade your information. We may share limited data only in the following circumstances:
- With service providers (e.g., cloud hosting) who process data on our behalf, subject to confidentiality obligations.
- When required by law, regulation, legal process, or enforceable governmental request.
- To protect the rights, property, or safety of Daily Ellen, our users, or the public where disclosure is necessary and lawful.
7. Your Choices & Controls
- Location permission – You can grant or revoke location access at any time in iOS Settings → Privacy & Security → Location Services → Daily Ellen. Revoking location access disables sunset-based scheduling; all other features remain unaffected.
- Push notifications – You can enable or disable notifications in iOS Settings → Notifications → Daily Ellen, or directly within the App under More → Notifications.
- Data deletion – Uninstalling the App removes all locally stored data (favorites, preferences, UUID) from your device. To request deletion of any anonymous data stored on our servers (such as your notification token or UUID), please contact us at hello@dailyellen.com and we will process your request within 30 days.
8. Data Security
We apply reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect information against unauthorised access, disclosure, or loss. On your device, sensitive identifiers are protected by iOS Keychain encryption. Data transmitted between the App and our servers is encrypted in transit using HTTPS/TLS.
9. Children's Privacy
The App is intended for general audiences and is not directed at children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under 13. If you believe we have inadvertently collected such information, please contact us and we will promptly delete it.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date at the top of this page. We encourage you to review this policy periodically. Your continued use of the App after any changes indicates your acceptance of the updated policy.
